More than 100 Tibetan orphans were flown into Pathankot, Punjab on Monday, March 25, 1963, from Leh Ladakh, by two C-130 transport planes of the U.S. 322nd Air Division currently on duty in India. From Pathankot they were transported by bus to a camp near Dharamsala, the home of the Dalai Lama. The orphans, ranging in age from three to 15, were brought to India over the past three years by other Tibetans stands who escaped from the Chinese Communists now controlling Tibet.
